Cami de Cavalls, day 1: Ciutadella
What a lovely place! We’ve arrived this morning at the natural harbor of Ciutadella on the west coast of Minorca. Ciutadella is the second largest town on the island, but from my point of view there are only 3 collections of houses anyway that deserve to be considered as being a city: Ciutadella in the west, the capital Mahón in the east and Ferreries somewhere in the middle. The 50 km highway right across them – that’s the main infrastructure you need to know about. Pretty relaxed.
In general, Minorca is the most tranquil of the Balearics and compared to its neighbor islands Mallorca and Ibiza the least overrun. Thus it remains to be of unspoilt beauty.
The way from the ferry terminal to the city center is in walking distance, we arrive at the Placa des Pins after about 30 minutes to indulge in a profound breakfast. Fresh juices … d’ya know? ;) Sky and the pins above are heavy with sun and everything is just fine.
After getting rid of our backpacks at the hostel, we dawdle around the baroque city center what is round here since the 16th century. Folks: even the pavements get wet wiped here (see the pic)! :) We are successfully hunting a hiking map for the Cami de Cavalls what was not available in Germany as well as bus schedules for in 10 days and gorgeous trousers for Rike what is so nice that I’m ready to carry it around the whole island. The trousers, not Rike (who is gorgeous as well but not here, unfortunately).
Aehm, well … lovely, dozy town where nothing much is likely to happen. Pretty good start into a relaxed, Mediterranean vacation.
