Menorca … we’re on the way
For several reasons we’ve decided to reach Minorca by ferry from Barcelona, where we are landing on 19:45. I embrace the warmth, finally back to summer! Although we are latently prepared, we let the info desk confirm our way from Placa d’Espanya to the ferry terminal – luckily we did, otherwise we would have suffered a nasty surprise.
If one is not familiar with Barcelona and you just look it up on a map it seems you can cross the Parc de Montjuïc. Not the best idea as we learn that the ‘park’ is a mountain of 173 m height. So one more time it’s recommended to ask even if you think you already have an idea. Doesn’t hurt at all and sometimes helps – if only to brush up your social contacts or language skills ;).
After a while (and some busses) we realize we have to waive the bus driver in order to get onto the bus. 40 minutes ride to Placa d’Espanya (Barcelona center) and another 30 minutes walk down Avenida Paral-lel to the ferry terminal. We see the Park de Montjuïc raise out of the dark on our right, not too bad we don’t have to cross that, at least not for today.
We check-in for the ferry and have plenty of time til boarding what we waste with having sea-side dinner.
The boat is quite big, I’m surprised. A serious ship! But there’s only a minor part for passengers, mainly it offers appropriate space for a fast number of trucks with freight for the islands.
Journey is 9 hours overnight what made us book sleeping chairs. The cheaper standard tickets would have been sufficient as there was no control and nobody was interested in who’s doing what at all and we could have used the sleeping chairs anyway. Well, we are completely on the correct side what is fine with us as the environment is really comfy. Sharp at midnight we are off to the sea, have some friendly beers on deck and enjoy the black wide sea.
But soon we recline our seats and disappear into the sleeping bags – to arrive well rested on Minorca at 9 the next morning.
¡buenas noches!
